Why Liquid Ammonia Can Not Replace AdBlue

2020-11-07 13:33:20

Liquid ammonia, also known as anhydrous ammonia, is a colorless liquid with a strong pungent odor. As an important chemical raw material, ammonia is usually used to obtain liquid ammonia by pressurizing or cooling gaseous ammonia for the convenience of transportation and storage. Ammonia is easily soluble in water, and when dissolved in water, it forms ammonium ion NH4+ and hydroxide ion OH-, which is an alkaline alkaline solution. Liquid ammonia is mostly stored in pressure cylinders or steel tanks, and cannot coexist with acetaldehyde, acrolein, boron and other substances. Liquid ammonia is widely used in industry, is corrosive and easily volatile, so its chemical accident rate is very high.

Liquid ammonia, that is, ammonia gas forms a low-temperature and high-pressure liquid under high pressure, and its ammonia content is higher (almost 100%) compared with traditional urea for vehicles. Because the urea currently used in diesel vehicles needs to be decomposed into carbon dioxide, ammonia and water vapor in the exhaust pipe, and only ammonia can truly achieve the catalytic conversion of nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide, the ammonia concentration is used Higher liquid ammonia instead of urea can not only obtain higher catalytic efficiency, but also can extend the vehicle's urea mileage while reducing the fuel consumption of the vehicle. There is no problem in theory when liquid ammonia is used to replace vehicle urea in the SCR exhaust gas aftertreatment system, but there are still many technical problems to be solved in practical applications.

Because ammonia gas has a low temperature and high pressure in a liquid state, once it leaks, it will cause frostbite and poisoning to the human body. If you want to apply liquid ammonia to the SCR post-processing system, you must equip the vehicle with a dedicated storage container. This measure will bring about an increase in the cost of vehicle manufacturing. Judging from the current situation, it cannot be applied soon.

In this regard, related engine researchers also stated: “In theory, liquid ammonia can replace urea as a new post-processing additive. But from the perspective of transportation safety, technological maturity, and market popularity, liquid ammonia It will take a long time for ammonia to replace urea, at least it will not be used before China VI emissions. Because urea has a higher safety factor in the transportation process, it is currently more widely used in SCR post-processing, and it is used in the application of Euro VI emissions. There are mature precedents in foreign countries. Whether in cargo transportation, scientific research investment or market promotion, automotive urea solution has great advantages."

The qualified AdBlue is NOX synthesized with 32.5% ultra-purity urea and pure water, which is suitable for all Euro IV and Euro V emission diesel engine SCR systems. AdBlue for vehicles converts it into nitrogen, oxygen, and water through selective catalytic reduction reaction with NOX products, thereby reducing the emission of nitrogen oxides. It is a solution prepared with pure water and high-purity urea without any other additives. The urea content in the solution is 32.5% (mass fraction). Most domestic and foreign heavy-duty diesel engine manufacturers have adopted SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology to meet the requirements of Euro IV and Euro V motor vehicle emission standards. Vehicles that choose SCR technology must add AdBlue as a catalytic reducing agent to make the vehicle meet emission standards.

At present, AdBlue is the safest and most effective way to reduce diesel exhaust gas treatment.

AdBlue® is a high-purity 32.5% automotive urea solution, mainly used as a reducing agent for diesel engine vehicles. The application of AdBlue® in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology can significantly reduce particulate matter and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions to meet the requirements of Euro IV, Euro V and Euro VI emission standards.

EverBlue Chemicals as an professional AdBlue manufacturer ,all of our products got the SGS & ISO & VDA certificates and we will keep the samples of each shipment for quality tracking. What's more ,we do the test with random sample in international authority each 1-2 month such as SGS ,Intertek.
