AdBlue issue in South Korea
Recently, the shortage of automotive urea is expanding in South Korea. In addition to the circulation industry (including retail, wholesale and logistics), construction, steel, automobile manufacturing and other industries are expected to be affected. An article in the central daily pointed out that at present, the inventory of vehicle urea used by Korean adult vehicle manufacturers for diesel vehicle delivery is only enough for two months, and the delivery and distribution of vehicles may be affected at the same time. South Korea is also known as a "diesel paradise". Among the 26 million registered motor vehicles in the country, the number of diesel vehicles exceeds 10 million. The easy and complicated AdBlue® Manufacture technique
The importance of AdBlue® for vehicles is self-evident, its ingredients are urea and water. The real key point is its srtict manufacturing standards. First, the manufacturer needs to purify the urea, and then separate the charged particles in the water to make deionized water. 32.5% high-purity urea and 67.5% deionized water is neccessary. It is not easy to complete sophisticated matching and purification work. The production equipment for AdBlue® needs to adopt 316 stainless steel material, and the whole process including water production, purification and filling is all closed operation. Even in such an ideal working environment, the manufacturer need to clean the entire equipment every two months and use high-pressure air to prevent metal residues and ions from entering the AdBlue®.

What is SCR System?
An SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system is a system installed on diesel vehicles to reduce harmful Nitrous Oxide (NOx) emissions. It works by injecting an automotive grade urea, or Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) through a specially designed catalyst, into the exhaust stream of a diesel engine. The Diesel Exhaust Fluid sets off a chemical reaction which converts the NOx into Nitrogen, water and very small amounts of CO2. SCR technology can achieve up to 90% NOx reduction. The technology has been around for some time, and used extensively on commercial on and off-road vehicles. In addition, cargo vessels, ferries and tug boats worldwide have employed SCR technology to effectively reduce emissions. One of the largest sectors for SCR technology is in the US. 2010 saw the introduction of the EPA diesel engine emissions standards for heavy duty commercial trucks. SCR had the added benefit of some commercial truck operators reporting 3-5% increase in fuel economy. Such is the importance of Diesel Exhaust Fluid to the emissions control systems, many vehicle starting systems may be locked out if inadequate levels of Diesel Exhaust Fluid are onboard, preventing the vehicle from starting.

Does it has no impact to remove the OBD device There are many misunderstandings in the process of using National IV vehicles. Some drivers will remove the OBD of the vehicle's AdBlue alarm equipment, or change the CPU data to avoid filling the AdBlue or achieve the effect of false environmental protection data. What's the harm? Relevant technical experts explained to us: By fooling the OBD monitoring, the vehicle can exhaust the urea in the SCR system with unlimited power. This seems to reduce a lot of troubles, but because the National Fourth Engine is biased to fully reduce PM emissions Combustion, so that the NOx emissions in the exhaust will not only not decrease but also increase, and the exhaust pollution even exceeds that of the national three vehicles. At the same time, the long-term non-operation of the SCR system will cause the residual vehicle urea solution in the SCR system to crystallize and block the pipes and nozzles, and the long-term lack of liquid soaking will reduce the life of the SCR system components or even damage them, and the catalyst will lose its catalytic effect. To replace the SCR, the cost of system components is much higher than the cost of normal use of AdBlue.

Does adding water to dilute AdBlue can save AdBlue? Some drivers think that the principle of AdBlue is very simple. In order to save the purchase cost of AdBlue, water will be added and used. What kind of harm will this bring? Relevant technical experts pointed out that this method of users is relatively concealed, water or AdBlue with a concentration lower than 32.5% after being diluted with water cannot be used. The reason is that water or diluted AdBlue cannnot realized the exhaust gas undergoes reduction treatment, so that NOx emissions are still too high, reducing emissions and optimizing the "National Fourth" standard is no different from a dead letter. Long-term use of water will cause the SCR system to work abnormally for a long time. The OBD system will directly reduce the engine output and increase fuel consumption. At the same time, it will also damage the components of the SCR system. The total cost of replacing an SCR system is about CNY70,000 to CNY80,000. In the meantime, it takes more than CNY2,000 yuan to replace the nozzle alone. In severe cases, damage to the catalyst will result in maintenance costs of CNY30,000 to CNY50,000. Although this approach reduces the AdBlue cost of vehicle in the short term, the gain is actually more than the loss.

AdBlue is still unfamiliar to some motorists but owners of modern diesel cars with engines that are Euro 6 compliant will already know about it. Our guide explains what AdBlue is, what AdBlue used for, how it works, how to keep it and what happens if your car runs out of it. What is AdBlue®? Adblue (the registered trade mark for AUS32) is a 32.5% aqueous urea solution of high-purity, synthetically manufactured industry grade urea in de-mineralized water.  It is a safe-to-use fluid. If you are in Brazil, this product is called ARLA32. If you are in the US, this product is called DEF (diesel exhaust fluid).AdBlue should meet the  DIN V 70070 standard and ISO 22241-1 specifications and complies with ISO to safeguard the correct functioning of your vehicle's SCR system What is AdBlue® used for? It is developed for use in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems fitted to diesel engines. The purpose of this system is to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions present in the exhaust gas stream. How does AdBlue® work? Vehicles with SCR technology have a separate tank filled with AdBlue. This is then injected into the exhaust pipe, in front of the SCR catalyst, downstream of the engine.  Heated in the exhaust, it decomposes into ammonia and CO₂. When the NOx from the engine exhaust reacts inside the catalyst with the ammonia, the harmful NOx molecules in the exhaust are converted to harmless nitrogen and water, which are released from the tail pipe as steam. How to keep AdBlue®? Adblue can be stored for 1 year, ideally away from direct sunlight and temperature extremes. Its freezing point is at -11°C, and upon thawing returns to initial quality. It should be stored in a sealed package in a well ventilated storage area.The product is slightly alkaline with a pH of approximately 9.0 so should not be kept in contact with aluminum, brass, mild steel. Stainless steel and plastic tanks and fittings are recommended. What happens if the car runs out? Since a full tank of adblue can last up to 10000 miles, running out of AdBlue is a bit unlikely. But, before running out your car will display a warning when the tank is almost empty. This warning, which will appear as a warning/light on your dashboard, indicates that you have around 3 liters of Adblue left, which are enough for 1200 miles, or so. Don’t ignore this warning because if you do, when the adblue tank will be over your engine’s performance will be greatly reduced. More importantly, if you stop the engine, it won’t start again if the adblue tank is empty. Only in 2017, there were more than 20.000 reports of AdBlue breakdowns.
