How does AdBlue® prevent crystallization?

AdBlue® contains urea and water, and several mechanisms help prevent crystallization:

1. **Additives in the formulation**

- Some AdBlue® products contain additives that act as crystallization inhibitors. These additives work by interfering with the normal crystal growth process. For example, they can adsorb onto the surface of nascent urea crystals, preventing further growth. It's similar to how certain substances can prevent ice from forming on a windshield. The additives change the energetics of crystal formation, making it less favorable for urea molecules to come together and form a crystalline lattice.

2. **Proper storage conditions**

- Maintaining the correct temperature range during storage is crucial. The ideal storage temperature for AdBlue® is between - 11°C and 30°C. At lower temperatures, the solubility of urea in water decreases, increasing the risk of crystallization. Storing AdBlue® in a temperature - controlled environment helps to keep the urea dissolved in the water.

- The container used for storing AdBlue® also matters. Containers are designed to protect the solution from external factors such as temperature fluctuations and contaminants. For example, high - quality plastic containers with good insulation properties can help maintain a more stable temperature inside and reduce the likelihood of crystallization.

3. **Quality of water used**

- The water component in AdBlue® is de - ionized water. High - quality de - ionized water helps to ensure that the urea remains in a dissolved state. Impurities in water can affect the solubility of urea. For example, the presence of certain salts or minerals can cause the urea to precipitate out more easily. The use of de - ionized water reduces the chances of such interactions and helps keep the urea solution stable and free from crystallization.

4. **Continuous circulation or agitation (in vehicle systems)**

- In the vehicle's SCR system, there is usually some degree of circulation or agitation of the AdBlue®. When the vehicle is running, the movement of the solution through the injection lines and the storage tank helps to prevent the urea from settling and crystallizing. It's like stirring a cup of sugar - water to keep the sugar dissolved. The continuous flow and mixing ensure that the urea molecules are evenly distributed in the water and less likely to form crystals.

Many people try to assess the suitability of a DEF additive by comparing a dried additivated(B) and a none additivated(A) Urea Solution to see if the additive reduces the amount of crystallized Urea/Cyanuric Acid. However, they don't realize that the dried Urea will most probably be the same in both cases. The fact is that this technology goes far beyond a simple test and need to be confirmed by a serious trial that can be done in real conditions by comparing the performance of the AdBlue® A&B after 50,000 to 100,000 kg depending if we are assessing the additive with a light duty care or a heavy-duty truck.

EverBlue Launched the MoreBlue Pro for the AdBlue® with anti- crystallization additives to

* Homogenization and reduction of the drop size.

* Promotion of Urea correct decomposition into NH3

* Avoid or reduce Urea crystal formation and agglomeration.

* Low Foaming.

Which greatly prevents the formation of crystal solids, and removes the presence of existing precipitates in the urea injectors and the SCR catalyst when an untreated AdBlue collapse and degrades to non-desirable substances to avoids future costs by maintaining the SCR Catalyst Clean.
