Shelf Life of Ad Blue ( also called as Diesel Exhaust Fluid /DEF /AUS32)

It is recommended that DEF be stored out of the direct sunlight and below 35 degC. Where higher ambient temperatures are experienced, tanks should be insulated or stored in a shaded area.The storage temperature range between 10 ℃ and 35 ℃, the shelf life floating in 12 to 36 months in this range.

The shelf life is DEF defined in the ISO 22241-3 standards. At constant temperatures up to 30 deg C the product will last a minimum of 12 months; at constant temperatures up to 35 deg C the shelf life is reduced to a minimum of 6 months.

Expiration Dates

Each package is stamped or marked with a date code indicating the date the DEF was made. The first digit of the date code is the DEF batch number. The next 6 digits reflect a date code, formatted as YYMMDD. Shelf life determination should be based on the period of time past that date.

Temperature Ranges

For maximum shelf life, DEF should be stored at temperatures that do not exceed 35 degrees or fall below 10 degrees. Sunlight exposure can negatively affect the quality of DEF and shorten its shelf life by decomposing the urea content. If DEF is stored outdoors, it should be stored in an area that is constantly shaded. Outdoor storage is not recommended. The lower the storage temperature, the longer the shelf life.

Concentration of DEF

DEF is an aqueous solution with a concentration of 32.5 % urea. The qualified urea concentration range is 31.8-33.2. If the test concentration is within the qualified range after the shelf life,and it will not affect the use.
